Geology & Paddling on the Gile Flowage

Join geologist Tom Fitz and NWLT board member Cathy Techtmann (UW-Extension Outreach Specialist) for this free paddling event on the Gile Flowage on Wednesday, August 23 from 1-3:30 pm.
Tom Fitz is a Professor of Geoscience at Northland College and an Affiliated Faculty, Burke Center, both in Ashland, WI. He is passionate about our increasing understanding of the earth, especially the fascinating geology of the Lake Superior region. Tom is experienced in leading geology field programs for learners of all ages.
The Gile Flowage is 3,400-acres and is located in Iron County and was created by a dam on the West Branch of the Montreal River. During the paddle, we will learn about some of the geological features of the area and more.
Participants should expect to paddle around 2-3 miles and need to provide their own watercraft, paddles, PFD, snack and water.
