Northwoods Land Trust Current Volunteer Opportunities
Conservation Easement Monitoring (mainly May-November)
Attend training (April 28th, 2016 at a conservation easement property near Eagle River) in the spring. Meet with landowners (preferred) to walk the property for the annual monitoring visit. We attempt to schedule you for property(ies) nearest you. You can monitor one or several properties.
NWLT Property Management (on-going)
Interstate Falls, Hurley:
Help install signage, re-route trail, construct a deer exclosure, and regular monitoring along the trail to the waterfalls.
Holmboe Conifer Forest, Rhinelander:
Continue repairs on bridges and steps. Invasive species (buckthorn, honeysuckle, knapweed) removal.
Dugan Squash Lake Preserve, Rhinelander:
Install entrance & perimeter signage, parking area barriers, and deer exclosure.
Thunder Lake Wildlife Conservation Area, Three Lakes:
Install perimeter signs.
Walk the properties regularly to check for hazards, clean-up, etc.
Help staff the visitor center in downtown Eagle River during regular hours, especially during the summer tourism season.
Surveying Projects (on-going)
Need survey assistance for locating existing property boundaries, marking boundaries on NWLT-owned and project lands, and surveying residential/building zones for conservation easements.
Mailing (1300+) newsletter – write articles, proofreading, fold, tape, address labels, and sort for bulk mailing.
Landowner Outreach Projects
Prepare large bulk mailings of landowner guides to targeted areas/parcel owners.
Memberships & Fundraising (on-going)
Help identify, contact, and build relationships with donors/business partners. Host special events and gatherings.
End of Year/Holiday Solicitation Mailing (end of November-early December)
Draft holiday greeting card, mail-merge and print labels, address envelopes, stuff and seal, and mail (750).
